Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 16, 2026 · Developer: Ahan Nithin
Percepta is built privacy-first. This policy describes exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.
Camera and face data
The app uses the front-facing camera to read facial expressions. Each video frame is passed to Apple's on-device Vision framework (VNDetectFaceLandmarksRequest), which derives the geometry of facial landmarks (mouth, eyes, eyebrows) and head orientation to compute a single expression label — Happy, Sad, Surprised, Angry, or Neutral — with a confidence value. This is the only face data the app processes.
The app does not collect, create, or store face images, video, a faceprint, a face template, a facial-geometry map, or any other biometric identifier that could recognize or identify a person. Camera frames are processed one at a time in memory and discarded immediately. No imagery and no facial-landmark data are ever recorded, stored, or transmitted off your device.
Use. The derived expression label is used solely, in real time, to give you feedback on the same device — shown on screen, announced via VoiceOver, and signalled by a haptic tap. It is never used for advertising, profiling, tracking, or identification.
Sharing. Face data and anything derived from it are never shared with any third party and never leave your device. All face processing happens on your iPhone.
Retention. Camera frames and facial-landmark data are not retained — they exist only transiently in memory during processing. The app stores, only on your device, a session history of aggregate expression labels and how long each appeared (e.g. "Happy: 3 min"); this contains no images, no landmark data, and no biometric identifiers, and is removed when you delete the app.
What we collect
- Email address — collected when you create an account, used solely to sign you in. Authentication is provided by Google Firebase Authentication (email/password, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple).
- Account identifier — a random user ID assigned by Firebase to your account.
- Name (optional) — only if you sign in with Apple or Google and choose to share it.
What we do not collect
- No photos, video, or audio
- No location data
- No expression or emotion readings — session summaries are stored only on your device
- No advertising identifiers; no ads; no tracking of any kind
- No analytics or behavioral data
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone. Firebase Authentication processes your sign-in credentials as our service provider, subject to Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
Data retention and deletion
Your account exists until you delete it. You can delete your account at any time inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion removes your authentication record (email, user ID) permanently. Session history is stored only on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
Children
Percepta is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
